Marketing chronicles
Marketing is an elusive topic. For years over years it hasn't made much sense to me.
My 30-40 is what I am calling a marketing decade. i.e. I will focus on being a better marketeer. 20-30 was dedicated to coding and building.
I can build well but not market well.
I also think marketing is an umbrella term like business. Just like there is no skill as business, there is no skill as marketing.
You can be a good copy writer, performance marketeer, social media expert, SEO specialist, or a tiktoker. Being good at marketing doesn't mean much. A good marketeer is essentially good at one or more of underlying fields/areas.
I am not sure, how true this assumption is but it has helped me move forward. Marketing doesn't feel like magic when put in this perspective.
This month I netted two customers for Lykhari. A tremendous achievement for me although a small one. A win regardless. What helped was posting about Lykhari on different subreddits in comments section. I replied where people asked about best blogging platforms, free blogging platforms, simple platforms etc.
I also posted about Lykhari directly in a few reddits that are not very heavily moderated. That has given some free signups of real people. Those reddits were mostly spammed heavily but I got genuine signups from there.
In last 30 days I also reached out to authors of blogposts about simple blogging platforms to see if the can link to Lykhari. One of them accepted!
May is looking like a good month for Lykhari.
So far, marketing is doing many little things regularly and it starts to trickle in signups. I also tried to follow some writing, blogging, journaling accounts on TikTok and instagram to find an influencer who can advertise Lykhari. No luck so far.
Some influencers did reach out but ask for $3-5k per post. Which is not what I am willing to spend.
I am also reading Influence by Robert Cialdini. A lot of techniques defined in it are good and they do work. I see people using them all the time. However, I find most of them manipulative. This is the next dilemma I need to come over or live by. I cannot justify myself doing fake price slashes, trick people through reciprocation, creating fake scarcity and sense of urgency. I want to run an honest, straight forward business with integrity. I am not sure how long will it last this way. You can debate fake price slashes are not dishonest. I am convinced they work but I am not convinced they are honest to use them. Still learning. Lets see...
