Lykhari makes sale

Last Friday lykhari made it first sale. I am beyond belief it happened. I am happier about the fact that the first sale came from a stranger than family and friends.

I shared the blogging platform with some friends who run their blogs. They didn't like it much or maybe they doubted its longevity. That was pretty much expected though. I tweeted once that if you start anything online following is a list of different types of audience sorted by conversion rate, highest to lowest.

  • Bots
  • Random people on the internet
  • Distant Mutual friends
  • Mere acquaintances
  • Ex Colleagues
  • Colleagues
  • Close friends
  • Friends
  • Family

It is not farther from truth. I am not complaining, just sharing what I found to be counter intuitive.

I am glad the first sale didn't come from friends because it validates the idea better.

One customer gave following feedback and it made my day

I have been looking for a simple blog site for weeks and came across yours; it is the best out there.

Immediately, after that I made a few changes. Lykhari had a tagline: "optimized for writers, readers, and search engines".

I made it simple.

Now it says, "a simple blogging platform for writers". I like it more. My target audience, writers, essayists, short story writers, journalers, and personal bloggers don't care about SEO much. I removed SEO from my pitch altogether despite keeping the same support for it.

I believe SEO has to be customer delight than a marketing strategy. My audience doesn't care about SEO much. I do. I wish more writers cared about that so Google is less full of garbage on the first page. Lykhari has all the SEO features but I don't market it anymore.

Less is more. In targeting, I believe, having a razor-sharp focus connects better than trying to do too much at once. I want lykhari to be go-to platform for indie writers. A household name, I wish.

Some day.

Now, that lykhari hosts quite a few blogs, I am already thinking how to keep the platform afloat after I die. Lykhari is not my only product. I've many others and there should be ways to transfer digital assets/products to your next kin safely. Internet is too new for this. Maybe I should engage my wife, and eventually my daughter. What would it take to make it last a 1000 years? 10000?
